AN OVERVIEW

The main idea behind microfinance is to provide the world’s poor, one of the most neglected populations, with financial services that can go a long way in alleviating their financial strain. The idea first began with microcredit, but it later grew to include more services such as branchless banking, savings, and microinsurance. The impact of microfinance can be seen in its huge uptake by many countries around by the world, and its ability to help the poor lift themselves out of poverty. There are more microfinance companies than ever, and new discoveries and discussions about the methods of helping the poor to access more credit and other financial services have been made.
In view of this surge in interest regarding microfinance, Microfinance Focus initiated a Microfinance Knowledge Tour to help equip curious individuals, and prospective investors or players in this industry with the basic knowledge about microfinance. Through this exposure tour, we hope that clients may gain an interest in this life-changing industry of social business.

OBJECTIVE OF TOUR

The end-goal of the tour is to equip any interested individual with basic knowledge about how microfinance works. The field trip will introduce the various methodologies employed by microfinance organizations, and the achievements and problems that occur on the ground. The workshop is suitable for anyone who is interested in joining the sector, or who want to see for themselves the how microfinance policies materialize among its clients.
