Microfinance Focus magazine releases special issue on technology

MF Focus, July 27, 2009: The July issue of Microfinance Focus, an online monthly digitial magazine, is released on Monday, with special focus on technology in microfinance sector.
“While it would be impossible to highlight every technology option that an MFI could choose to implement, in this, our first IT-focused issue, we have decided to present editorials, articles, and reviews of a few of the available software products like  MIFOS that we believe offer a greater benefit through their use than would be available without them. Essentially, we have tried remind the our readers of the value and worth of IT’s contribution to the MFI,” says Bruce Meraviglia, New York-based technology editor of the magazine.
The magazine has featured a special interview of Alex Counts, CEO and President of Grameen Foundation.  While Dr Sourendra Nath Ghosal, a microfinance expert and head of knowledge management of the magazine, has examined the contribution of technology and transparency of MFIs to reach out the poor, Jake Lomax, researcher of Birzeit University Center for Development Studies, has highlighted the renewed interest in microfinance institutions in the Palestine region in her contribution titled “Economic Peace and Conflict Risks in Palestinian Microfinance”.
Another article, citing a UN report, says microinsurance products, which are aimed at the poor, reach 5.2 million Indians, which means only 2% of the target population while nearly 950 million remain uninsured.
