ACCESS, MDI launch Livelihoods India awards in memory of Sitaram

Microfinance Focus, Sept. 2, 2009: New Delhi-based ACCESS Development Services and Management Development Institute (MDI), Gurgaon are jointly launching the ‘Sitaram Rao Livelihoods India Case Study Competition’ in memory of Mr. Sitaram Rao, the mentor and guru of the Indian Microfinance and Livelihoods movement who recently passed away.
The competition aims to document motivating case studies to increase awareness on the livelihoods sector. The participants will be required to write a case study of approximately 5,000 words on ‘Making Markets Work for the Poor’, with a focus on public-private- community partnership. The competition is open to Indians as well as foreign nationals, and is targeted at management professionals, practitioners, academicians, researchers and business school students.
The 10 best cases will be given citations, along with cash awards of Rs 75,000, Rs. 50,000 and Rs. 30,000 for the top three on October 28, 2009 at the Livelihoods Session of the Microfinance India Summit 2009.
The summit will discuss issues related to the “sustainable livelihood of the poor” and a separate “State of India’s Livelihoods – The 4 P Report” will also be released.
