Five new members join Sa-Dhan’s governing body

Microfinance Focus, Nov. 2, 2009: Five new members have joined the 15-member board of Sa-Dhan, the nodal agency of Indian microfinance industry. In an extraordinary general body meeting of the Sa-Dhan held on Oct. 25, vacancies caused by either rotation or resignation had been filled, said a statement by Sa-Dhan.
The new members are: Mr. Chandrashekhar Ghosh, Bandhan Microfinance, Mr. Suresh Krishna, Grameen Financial Services Pvt. Ltd., Mr. C.S. Reddy, APMAS, Ms. Vijayalakshmi Das, FWWB and Mr. Rajesh Singhi, IBTADA.
The representation on the board is equally made up of those members who are directly providing micofinance services and those promoting SHGs, capacity building or providers of technical services.
Incorporated in July 1999, Sa-Dhan provides a platform to the stakeholders in Indian microfinance. Mr. Mathew Titus is the current executive director of Sa-Dhan. Two of the new five members are from NBFC-MFIs (MFIs which have transformed into non-banking financial companies) and two others are from SHG model and Ms. Das is from the capacity building.
Mr Ghosh is the founder and CEO of Kolkata-based Bandhan Microfinance. Mr Krishna is the Managing Director of Grameen Financial Services Pvt. Ltd., that is part of Grameen Koota, Mr Reddy is the CEO of Hyderabad-based Mahila Abhivruddhi Society (APMAS), a national level SHG program, Ms Das is the CEO of Friends of Women’s World Banking working in 17 states, with 120 partner organisations. Mr. Singhi is the head of IBTADA, an NGO working with women’s Self-Help Groups for more than eight years in the Mewat region of Rajasthan.
