Microfinance Focus, Jan. 15, 2010: Gary Ford is the new CEO of MicroCredit Enterprises (MCE), a non- profit organization that leverages private capital for microloans. Ford took over charge on january 1, 2010.
Building on his previous involvement with MCE as General Counsel (pro bono),
Ford has taken over the CEO position from Jonathan C. Lewis, who will continue
as Chair of the Board, said a statement.
“Gary Ford is the ideal candidate for this position,” says Jonathan Lewis. “His
former work with MCE, as well as his distinguished legal career, give him the
breadth of experience to make a major, positive contribution to MCE.”
Gary Ford also works as a Principal at the Washington, D.C. law firm, Groom
Law Group. He previously served as ERISA Counsel to the General Counsel to
the federal Pension Benefit Guaranty Corporation.
“Jonathan Lewis has built an incredibly potent approach to alleviating poverty,”
says Ford. “While retaining control of his or her assets, each MCE guarantor
helps enough poverty-stricken people to fill a sports arena. I am excited about
furthering the important mission of MCE in helping women and families around
the globe.”
Established in 2005, MicroCredit Enterprises is a microfinance fund manager,
backed by a network of guarantors with a current total of $37 million in pledged
assets. To date, MCE has funded 95,000 micro-entrepreneurs across 15
countries on four continents, improving the living conditions of 500,000 poor
people.
