Aloysius Fernandez to head NABARD Financial Services

Microfinance Focus, Feb 10, 2010: Aloysius Fernandez, the former Director of MYRADA and a veteran in the field of rural development, livelihoods and microfinance, has been appointed as Director of NABARD Financial Services and elected as Chairman of the Board from January 18, 2010.
NABARD Financial Services Limited (NABFINS) is a Non-Banking Financial Company and a Subsidiary of National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (NABARD). The other shareholders of the company are Canara Bank, Government of Karnataka, Federal Bank and Dhanalakshmi Bank. The Company is engaged in agriculture and allied activities as also in micro finance activities in the country. It has commenced its lending operations in November in Karnataka and Tamil Nadu.
Mr Fernandez has been honoured with Padmashree award by the Government of India in 2000 for his contribution in the field of poverty alleviation and refugee resettlement. He has been a member of various government and RBI committees, the Advisory Committee of NABARD, Member of the National Wastelands Development Board, CAPART, Director on the Board of Corporation Bank and Member, Bangalore University Syndicate.
